Personal Information Collection Statement Pertaining to Recruitment




The personal data collected in this application form will be used by the Competition Commission (“Commission”) to assess the applicant’s suitability to assume the job duties of the position for which he/she has applied and to determine the preliminary remuneration and benefits package to be discussed with the applicant in the event that he/she is selected for the position.



Provision of the personal data requested in the application form (unless marked as optional) is obligatory for selection purposes.  Failure to provide any required data or inaccuracies in any personal data that is provided may have an impact on the processing of and decision made in respect of your application. 



For candidates who are selected for appointment, the Commission may, after obtaining their written consent, disclose necessary personal data to relevant third parties as consented to by the candidates for the purposes of verifying or confirming the qualifications or experience of the candidates and their suitability for appointment.  This process may entail the Commission obtaining employment or character references and/or engaging third parties to undertake necessary integrity or security checks.  The personal data of an applicant will not be transferred to any third parties in this context without the prior written consent of the applicant.



The personal data of unsuccessful applicants will be destroyed within 12 months of the recruitment process being completed by the appointment of a candidate for the relevant position.  For certain candidates who are considered suitable for appointment (potentially for another position at the Commission other than the one applied for) but who are not successful in securing the position applied for, it is the Commission’s policy to retain their personal data on a reserve list for future recruitment purposes for a period of 24 months from completion of the recruitment process (as defined above).  In the event that there are suitable vacancies in our organization during this period, we may further review the relevant candidates’ applications in consideration of a possible offer of employment. 



Pursuant to the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486), a person who provides personal data to the Commission has the right to request access to and correction of his/her personal data held by the Commission.  Requests for access to or correction of personal data should be made in writing to Manager (Human Resources) of the Commission at 19/F, South Island Place, 8 Wong Chuk Hang Road, Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong or by email to in accordance with the Commission’s Privacy Policy available on its website at
